On Wednesday, November 26, Broadway came to life in Chișinău, and all for a profoundly important cause – supporting children and adults suffering from severe incurable illnesses. Hospices of Hope Moldova organized a special event dedicated to hope and relief for those in need of palliative care – the Charity Gala “Broadway Lights of Hope Musical.”

Beloved artists took to the stage, such as Cristina Scarlat, Tatiana Heghea, Lidia Isac, Anna Odobescu, Lucian Advahov, the vocal ensemble InTact-Art, the Jazz Orchestra of the Academy of Music conducted by Petru Hăruță, and Art-Studio Repede. The event was hosted by the incomparable Sergiu Beznitchi.

The gala gathered 200 guests, among them high-ranking representatives of the Government and Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, ambassadors, and international donors accredited in the country.

During this memorable evening, the organization announced the launch of the construction of Moldova’s first palliative care hospital, where both children and adults will be able to receive specialized medical care free of charge. This marks a major step for the healthcare system in the Republic of Moldova. The new hospital is expected to be built within the next three years in the Bubuieci commune, on a 4,100 m² plot of land, and will have a capacity of about 30 beds for both children and adults, serving approximately 250 patients annually.

A life free of pain and lived with dignity is a fundamental right of every human being. Toward this goal, Hospices of Hope has been working for over 30 years, providing free palliative care in Southeast Europe. We have taken the first important step: we have secured a plot of land in Bubuieci. Now is the moment to write history together. We are joining forces to lay the foundations of the hospital, brick by brick, and for this, we need your support. We aim to create a place where children and adults suffering from cancer or other serious illnesses can receive medical, social, and psychological assistance, free of charge — along with their families, who also need support during these difficult times.

For the first time, the guest of honor was Prince Grigore Ghyka, a descendant of Grigore Alexandru Ghica, Ruler of Moldova, who emphasized that true nobility lies in generosity and the desire to leave something valuable behind. He highlighted that civic responsibility is a quality each of us must cultivate, as only by helping others can we build a stronger, more kind-harted community.

Also present at the event was Ms. Marina Morozova, Vice President of the Parliamentary Committee for Social Protection, Health, and Family.

The evening’s speeches highlighted the profound impact of the work carried out by Hospices of Hope Moldova. Her Excellency Fern Horine, Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Chișinău, stated: “In the Republic of Moldova, thousands of patients lack access to adequate medical services and psychological support. Hospices of Hope Moldova works tirelessly to provide comfort, dignity, and hope. The recently acquired land represents a major achievement. I warmly invite you to support this new and extremely important stage.”

Mr. Alexei Percemlî, Mayor of Bubuieci commune, emphasized the great importance of this project and assured that the local administration will provide all necessary support for the construction of the new palliative care hospital.

The event also included a live auction as well as a silent auction. Among the special items, Anna Perolls, Executive Director of Hospices of Hope, offered guests a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the construction of the new hospital: participants could bid for a personalized plaque featuring their name, which will be displayed at the reception of the future center. In this way, each donor can leave a symbolic and lasting mark on this historic project.

Additionally, the auction lots included truly exceptional items: the shirt worn by Radu Albot at the 2021 Australian Open, the painting “Cucuteni” created by artist Cristina Balan, a getaway to Switzerland generously offered by Grand Voyage, and a collector’s item from Carla’s Dreams – an original T-shirt with an autograph. We are deeply grateful to our supporters for these remarkable lots and for their outstanding generosity.

As a result of the event, over 69,000 EUR were raised, and all funds will directly support the construction of the future hospital.

Veronica Dragnev-Sacara, Country Manager of Hospices of Hope Moldova, emphasized:
“For more than 15 years, Hospices of Hope Moldova has been providing entirely free home-based palliative care. Today, we place our hope in the belief that within the next three years, we will be able to offer the same care within a hospital, where pain will turn into comfort, and fear into dignity and compassion for every patient.”

Hospices of Hope Moldova thanks you for your support and generosity. Together, we can bring light and hope into the darkest moments of life for people suffering from terminal illnesses. Let us continue to be the change this world needs!
